Description
Between 916 an 918 Chestnut Street there is a small strip of curb everyone assumes is a parking spot (with school sign). I have had too many St. Joseph students and other inconsiderate neighbors block my driveway or make it unsafe for me to enter or exit my driveway. I paid to get the curbs permitted and painted properly to still have to deal with students that their only excuse is they were late to school. Pleas extend the paint on the curb so I do not have to continue to call the police to wedge my car out of my driveway.

After discussing the situation further with the citizen, staff found that the blocking of the driveway is due to passenger loading and not parking. Staff does not recommend red curb as it would not address the situation. Further, there are no suitable engineering tools for this behavior.
Red curbs (and no parking signs) are self enforcing tools, meaning they do not actively, physically prevent motorists from parking. For the most part, motorists are aware that they are not supposed to park/drop-off in a red zone, so they are consciously violating the law. Additionally, in school zones, passenger drop-offs in red zones or in front of driveways are an unacceptable, unfortunate, common occurrence.
